In 1999, the United Nations had declared that every year World Space Week would be celebrated from 4th October to 10th October to commemorate the contributions of science towards Space Research and Technology for the betterment of Mankind. Ever since, the Space Week has been celebrated with great enthusiasm.
This year the space theme was, “The Moon: Gateway to the Stars.” It is an endeavour to explore and expose as much information that has so far been collected on the moon. About 28000 Indian students participated this year.
The Moon has always been an object of intrigue for space researchers. It serves as the gateway to the constellation of stars. India’s second mission to the moon – Chandrayan II was quite a success. Germany has already started researching on how to prepare oxygen from the materials present in the moon. The European Space Agency is initiating to start a moon village on the moon. NASA is launching its new spaceship Orion on the Moon to gather more information on the moon.
The United Nations declared in 1999, that October 4 through October 10 each year would be recognized as World Space Week, a time “to celebrate at the international level, the contributions of space science and technology to the betterment of the human condition.”
The Space Foundation Discovery Center plans to do just that Oct. 4, 5, 8 and 9 *. The theme for World Space Week 2019 is “The Moon: Gateway to the Stars.”
