the components of the transport system are organised. plants consist of xylem and phloem transports water and food respectively.
in xylem tissues, vessels and tracheids of the roots stem and leaves are interconnected to form continuous systems for water and mineral conductivity to reach all parts of the plant body. water moves in through the root tips in the soil, by the process of diffusion. water and minerals are transported in a single direction only, due to the force of transpirational pull, and it reaches all parts of the plant.
the food manufactured in leaves are transported by phloem vessels to all parts of the plant. process is called translocation. food in phloem can move in both upward and downward direction to all parts of the plant; including roots. transport occurs mainly through sieve tubes in phloem. the translocation in phloem is by using the energy stored in plants in the form of atp. thus, the mechanism of transport is organised in plants.
